The hype on incoming transfer quarterback officially jumped the shark over the weekend as FSU coach Jimbo Fisher told tidesports.com that the former FSU backup is better than any quarterback Alabama has had under Nick Saban. Including a guy who went 36-4 as a starter and won a pair of national championships in AJ McCarron.
Crimson Cover's Chase Goodbread tried to put the assessment into context at NFL.com.
Fisher also indicated that Coker, along with having an arm of gold, likes to run the ball, too. And apparently, he does it with some power. If Blake Sims and Cooper Bateman were lacking any motivation for the upcoming competition with Coker for the starting job before, they certainly have more now.
Nobody is giving either a chance. That's in part on them after a poor A-Day performance (Sims), and a mediocre one (Bateman) when fans had their only spring chance to judge for themselves. If anyone other than Coker starts Alabama's season-opener against West Virginia, the Coker Hype Machine will take a well-deserved beating -- and we'll be the first to take a swing at Crimson Cover.
